A multilingual, mobile-first website that helps New Yorkers confidently take the first step toward quitting.

NYS Quitline had a website usability problem—and users were feeling the friction. The previous site was difficult to navigate, visually dated, and fragmented, with dozens of orphaned pages and no clear structure.

Makeway stepped in to overhaul the experience from the ground up. We restructured the information architecture, redesigned the visual system with warmth and empathy, and built a scalable WordPress backend. The result? A high-performing platform that welcomes users, connects them to resources, and supports the mission to make New York smoke-free.

Knowledge Base + Local Support Finder

We developed a dynamic Knowledge Base that centralizes fragmented information into a single, intuitive system—making it easy for users to find answers without getting lost. Paired with a localized support finder, users can enter a ZIP code and immediately access tailored services available in their region.

These tools reduce friction, boost self-service, and save the NYS Quitline team valuable time in managing resources and updates.

Simplified access. Amplified support.

The new NYSmokefree.com is faster, friendlier, and far more functional. Content is easier to update, key resources are easier to find, and the platform now reflects the mission behind it.

Data and behavior tracking are ongoing, but early indicators are promising—especially in terms of user engagement with the new Knowledge Base and CTA visibility.
